Gorrissen Federspiel advises Air Greenland

10 July 2026

After years of preparation and extensive negotiations, Air Greenland has made a Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) agreement with the Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO) concerning surveillance and mission flights in Greenland and surrounding areas.

The agreement was signed last Friday at Greenland’s Representation at North Atlantic House in Copenhagen by Air Greenland’s CEO, Jacob Nitter Sørensen, and the head of DALO, Per Pugholm. At the same time, the Danish Minister of Defence, Jeppe Bruus and Greenland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Múte B. Egede, signed a declaration of intent on continued military cooperation. A milestone not only for Air Greenland, but also for the security of the Danish Realm.

We assisted Air Greenland with the MDA agreement and the parallel negotiations with PAL Aerospace concerning the conversion of two Dash 8 aircraft and the installation of military mission equipment for use under the agreement.

The matter drew on Gorrissen Federspiel’s combined experience in aviation, defence and Arctic matters and confirms the importance of this particular combination of expertise in agreements of this nature and significance.

It has been a great pleasure to help Air Greenland establish the framework for this exciting operation and, once again, to act as an integral part of Air Greenland’s organisation.

The Gorrissen Federspiel team consisted of Ulrikke Helnæs Fabricius, Peter Sand and Morten Hans Jakobsen.

Congratulations to Air Greenland, the Danish Armed Forces and the Danish Realm.
