Gorrissen Federspiel assists Vestforbrænding

11 July 2025

Earlier this week, Vestforbrænding and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners announced that they – through their joint venture Gaia Carbon Capture – have entered into a long-term offtake agreement with Microsoft for permanent carbon removals. The agreement with Microsoft marks an important milestone in the parties’ ambition to establish large-scale carbon capture at Vestforbrænding’s waste-to-energy facility.

Gaia Carbon Capture represents a pioneering approach to decarbonising the waste sector – one of the more complex industries to address in the green transition. Through carbon capture and storage, the project will contribute to Denmark’s climate goals while also generating positive side effects such as supplying surplus heat to the district heating network.

Gorrissen Federspiel, including the core team Charlotte Louise Thorsen, Erik Kjær-Hansen, Tina Herbing, Christoffer Hornslet, Johannes Bruun, Josephine Alsing and Nicolaj Hirschsprung Schlyter, are proud to assist Vestforbrænding on their journey to turn vision into infrastructure – and building the foundation for one of Denmark’s most ambitious CCS projects.

Congratulations to all parties on this landmark agreement.
