Next webinar: May 28 at 09:00 CET | Volatility

In recent years the industry has been subject to successive waves of unexpected restrictions and volatility, fundamentally altering the risk landscape. Our Wind team will together with Christiaan Smeman, Head of Risk Management at Maersk Tankers share their perspectives on effectively navigating the current market conditions.

We will look at identifying and quantifying risks, and the latest trends in contractual terms and strategies for creating certainty in an uncertain market.

Volatility in the Energy Markets; a simple taxonomy

  • Price volatility
  • Operational volatility
  • Policy & narrative

Assessing & quantifying risk

  • What is your exposure and impact on you
  • What do you need to assess before hedging
  • What will your residual risk be after assessing your risk mitigation options

Operational Considerations in an Expanding OEM Landscape

Long-term service and availability agreements with OEMs having an extensive service track record have long been one of the cornerstones of wind project development. As the selection of OEMs continues to grow — each offering different value propositions — understanding the risks and opportunities associated with varying service strategies has become more critical than ever.

Gorrissen Federspiel’s wind team has partnered with leading wind engineering provider DIS to deliver a focused session on the key aspects to consider when evaluating OEM service propositions across the operational life of a turbine.

Christopher Halling from Gorrissen Federspiel’s wind team will share insights on:

  • Short- vs. long-term service agreements and their practical implications
  • Defect notification periods
  • End-of-term inspections
  • SCADA access and data ownership
  • Operational support structures
  • Spare parts schemes

Lars Søvndahl from CREADIS will share his perspective on O&M priorities during asset ownership such as:

  • What to consider in the procurement phase for long term O&M success
  • Site specific O&M strategies
  • Key elements for an operational excellence (surveillance including SCADA, tech support, performance analytics etc.
  • CREADIS organizational value hierarchy and OEM agnostic process.
  • When to build inhouse capabilities and when to look for external expertise.

Future Wind Insights webinars

  • Service | Date TBC
    • Long term service contracts with OEMs used to be a prerequisite for a project’s bankability, but the market seems to become more nuanced with a combination of short OEM contracts combined with support agreements as well as service contracts equal to the design life
  • Next level of multicontracting (mostly offshore) | Date TBC
    • Where handling the interface between multiple contracts used to be seen as risky and difficult to make bankable, developers are increasingly seeing opportunities in a multi-contract approach.
  • Vessels | Date TBC
    • In a market where more and more employers are looking into chartering vessels for extended periods of time covering multiple projects, the dynamics are shifting.
    • The leading experts from our vessel team will provide an in-depth overview of the key legal and commercial considerations.
  • Floating | Date TBC
    • With the successful award of two floating projects in AR7, it is clear that floating wind remains a viable and promising frontier.
    • Our leading turbine experts will discuss and compare the legal challenges with floating vs. bottom fixed.
  • Co-locating BESS | Date TBC
    • In a market where existing and new PV projects are increasingly looking into co-locating BESS, the question arises: does it also make sense for wind?
