An outlook on legal and market trends

Gorrissen Federspiel invite you to participate in our series of seminars developed for professionals working within the shipping, offshore and logistics industries.

The series will include six seminars, all designed to provide perspectives on the latest market trends and legal insights into the key challenges and opportunities in your industries.

Participation is free and you are welcome to join as many of the seminars as you would like.

Danish lawyers will obtain continuing profession education points  (“efteruddannelsespoint”) upon participation of at least three seminars.

Recent trends on vessel transactions

Update on recent legal and practical challenges within sale and purchase of vessels, registration of vessels and ship financing. The seminar will include latest development on ETS compliance, FuelEU, EU sanctions related to Russia and the impact on parties to sale and purchase transactions.

Tonnage tax update and other tax subjects

We will in this seminar provide an update on the tonnage tax system and other international tax regimes impacting shipping. Among the subjects, we will cover the impact of the new minimum taxation regulation under Pillar Two, blacklisting risks and taxation of seafarers.

ETS and Fuel EU maritime initiative

The European Union’s Fit for 55 agenda is rapidly changing the shipping industry. In this seminar, we will provide a status on the Emission Trading Scheme which entered into force in January 2024 and introduce the FuelEU maritime Initiative which will enter into force later this year. The seminar will help prepare shipowners and other stakeholders on the regulatory obligations and the contractual aspects.

ESG/Sustainability in shipping

The shipping industry is increasingly influenced by the evolving ESG agenda, including new and upcoming regulation being developed at EU level under the Green Deal umbrella. Legislative initiatives include, among other things, comprehensive requirements on companies to assess, document and be transparent about their ESG and sustainability efforts and risks.

In this seminar we will focus on the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), and we will share our perspectives on how the new and upcoming ESG legislation will impact the role of the inhouse legal teams from a strategic and a risk management perspective.

Ship recycling

The 2009 Hong Kong Convention on Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Vessel will finally enter into force in June 2025. This seminar will focus on the implementation on how owners and other stakeholders can prepare for the convention as to contracts, in particular S&P, and navigate the complex regulatory landscape involving international, EU and national regulations.
