As assistant attorney, Casper has handled cases about seafarers, inquiries about biofuel and sanctions on the oceans for one of the world’s largest shipping companies.
As part of my job with Gorrissen Federspiel, I have been seconded to Maersk Tankers, where I got a different view on the work as adviser and the clients’ daily use of the law
At Maersk Tankers, I was part of a legal team with four colleagues. The team handles all of the company’s legal issues and assists with the hedging of the company’s risks. I faced challenges in new areas on a daily basis, since the department handled many areas that I’m normally not involved in. I was involved in handling IT contracts, sanctions, questions about seafarers and biofuel and more well-known areas like corporate law, general contract law and maritime law. It has been a great advantage as an assistant attorney to get this experience, and it has undoubtedly made me a better adviser already.
East or west, home is best. After being seconded for a couple of months, I returned to the office in Copenhagen, where I’m part of the M&A group. Here I assist clients on a daily basis with purchase and sale of companies, restructurings and other corporate law issues. I’m happy to be back at the office and to be advising again, where I can draw on my experience from Maersk Tankers.
At the same time, I benefit from the social life at Gorrissen Federspiel and the many social events organised by my colleagues. I run in our weekly running club, where we meet across departments. As a young lawyer, the social activities make me feel closer connected to the firm and to my colleagues. They form connections and friendships across departments that last, even outside of Gorrissen Federspiel.
Philip was employed as project law student in Corporate/M&A in the 3rd semester of law school and subsequently continued working in the group as a law student. Among other things, Philip is making use of the Gorrissen Federspiel travel grant, when he is going to Sydney in the fall to study a semester abroad.
”You learn a lot from handling the interaction between the law and the client’s commercial demands - both at the negotiation meetings and when you prepare the final contracts”.
As a mentor under the mentor programme, Bjørn helps our students and assistant attorneys balance their working and private life - while advising companies on corporate law issues.
